Gasworks Motorsport Inc and the Junee RSL Sub-Branch were two groups, amongst fourteen others from across the federal electorate of Riverina, to share in over $56,000 funding thanks to the Australian Government’s Volunteer Grants Program for 2022-23.

The Volunteer Grants Program provides community organisations with grants of between $1,000 and $5,000, which can be used to buy equipment for use by volunteers, reimburse volunteer fuel costs, meet training costs, transport volunteers with a disability or support promotional activities on volunteering events.

Federal Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack said “These grants seem small but they can make such a tangible difference for local volunteer organisations to allow them to continue the invaluable work they do throughout the Riverina and Central West.”

“Volunteers are what makes our regional, rural and remote communities the wonderful places they are to live, work and raise a family,” Mr McCormack said, and continued “Our volunteers do a power of wonderful work to improve our local communities and I thank each and every one of them for their tireless efforts.”

Gasworks Motorsport Inc received $4,989

Gasworks Motorsport
To assist their volunteers, Gasworks Motorsport applied for funding to purchase a number of small items to make it easier for volunteers to assist with projects at Illabo Motorsport Park, including:

  • Multi Purpose Colour Laser Printer, Scanner and Copier
Replace ageing, slow, and expensive to operate, ink printer used by volunteer secretary with modern, fast & economical colour laser printer
  • 244 Piece 26″ 8-Drawer Tool Chest
So volunteers won’t have to supply their own tools
  • 3 Piece 18V Cordless Tool Kit
Again, so volunteers won’t have to supply their own tools
  • 3 Piece 18V Cordless Garden Kit
Assist volunteers with gardening and track side maintenance tasks
  • Additional Battery Packs & Chargers
The equipment in the Cordless Tool Kit and Garden Kit all use the same battery packs. By having extra batteries on hand, we can make more efficient use of volunteers time by having some on charge while others are in use
  • 1800W 2030PSI High Pressure Washer
Ideal for washing dirt and mud from vehicles, outdoor furniture & Grandstand — have you seen the amount of dust that the vintage speedway events creates and then often turns into mud!!!
  • Two Outdoor Gas Heaters and Gas Bottles
Help keep Volunteers warm during Working Bees and at Events
  • Two Beverage Coolers and accessories
Keep our volunteers hydrated! Fill a Beverage Cooler with tap water and a bag of ice and it will stay icy cold all day. Place on 4ft table for easy access, with reusable tumblers, to reduce the number of single use plastic bottles. Place one in Volunteer Rest Area and another set out on the track in-field
  • 10.8L Soup Kettle
Serve our Volunteers with warm nutritious soup during the winter months at working bees and events

Junee RSL Sub-Branch received $5,000

Junee RSL Sub-Branch
The Junee RSL Sub-Branch requested funding to purchase a large heavy duty marquee, along with various walls and accessories, to provide shelter to their volunteers, and those of other local NFPs, when undertaking volunteer tasks at local community events and activities. It will provide a dedicated space four the RSL Sub-Branch’s volunteer AV Team — enabling them to secure equipment and reduce trip hazards.

While the primary purpose of the Marquee will be to protect the volunteers, and the expensive AV Equipment, from dew and hot sunlight during the annual ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day Commemorative Services, the Marquee will be available for use by other local not-for-profit community groups and sporting clubs at their own activities, events and festivals — especially in conjunction with the extensive Audio-Visual equipment the Sub-Branch already owns.

The Marquee and Accessories will include:

  • 6m x 3m Commerical Quality Marquee, with
    • 4 x Full Walls
    • 2 x Full Walls with Clear Window
    • 1 x Full Wall with Roll-up Door
    • 2 x Half Height Walls
    • All-Terrain Wheeled Protective Cover for Frame and Roof
  • 6 x 15kg Sandbags
  • 4 x 6ft Trestle Tables
  • 8 x Tablecloths
  • Heavy Duty Storage Tubs for marquee walls and accessories
